hi Doctor my son 24 years old, after spending a night swimming with his cousins in a public pool came home feeling ill, at first feverous and as the day progress the fever went up to 38.7, i gave paracetamol and got result, fever went down but he spend all night visiting the comfort room with dark green fecal and lab this morning says amoeba E. HISTOLYTICA CYST: 1-2/HPF was found, what med should be given to him, our family doctor is out of town

Hi,
Welcome to HCM.

Entamoeba histolytica commonly causes dysentery like illness called as amoebic dysentery. Tab Metronidazole 750 mg thrice daily for 5-7 days is the treatment of choice. Fluid diet is recommended. Increased water intake per day is advised.
