Emergency Medicine Specialist, Dr. Prathap's Response
Hi.. Violent shaking of the head cause brain fluid (CSF) disturbance which leads to secondary injury to the brain called concussion. In your scenario; Fall on the buttock with no direct trauma to head is very unlikely to cause concussion. Severe body ache can itself cause headache. Dehydration can also cause headache. Things to do: 1) bed rest, hydration ( plenty of fluids) and good nutrition. 2) give pain killer - diclofenac twice a day (if asthmatic take paracetamol twice/thrice a day) note : dose as to be altered as per body weight , and do not give tramadol as it can cause giddiness, drowsiness , nausea and vomiting which can worsen the present condition. 3) watch for signs of head injury ( loss of consciousness, vomiting, giddiness, seizures, ear/nose bleed) till 48 hrs from the time of injury. if it occurs do report to the hospital immediately. thank you.
