Dear Gemma,
Hello dear,

The symptoms as mentioned in your post is caused due to excess acid formation in stomach & relaxation of the sphincter at the lower part of esophagus.

Medical management consists of intake of Proton pump inhibitors like Pantoprazole, Omeprazole, etc. which prevent acid formation in stomach.

Additional management involves:
1. Intake of Domperidone preparations which strengthens the sphincter & prevents reflux.
2. Lifestyle modification- like weight reduction, sleeping on the left side, or with upper body raised.
3. Dietary modification- avoid consuming irritating substances such as acidic & rich foods, caffeine, nicotine, and alcohol.

If symptoms still persist, it will be better to consult your treating Doctor/ Gastroenterologist.
Investigation like Ultrasound scan of abdomen & Upper GI endoscopy will be helpful in clinching the diagnosis.

Wish you a good health.
Take care.
