How Can Stomach Distention With Pain And Irritation Be Treated?

Hi...I have a question about my 18 year old daughter who was in a car accident this past Monday the 7th. She was taken to the hospital and found no broken bones. On Wednesday morning, we called the ambulance to take her to ER due to constant vomiting and nausea until she was near passing out. They did a CT on her stomach and it showed slight irriatation, and her stomach was somewhat decended(sp?). She also had a fever, and heart rate of around 125-130...They treated her to get all that under control. All day today she has been complaining of stomach pains getting worse and her stomach looks even more bloated to me. She hasn't vomited anymore and her HR is normal. I am concerned about a possible small bowel issue. She was wearing her seatbelt in the accident and had some bruising and injuries from that as well as the air bags. Is this something that could be more serious, and have been missed by the CT??

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

There are micro problems which can not be detected at CT level. It could be slow peristalsis, electrolyte imbalance induced changes, gut flora disturbances or something else.

In our clinic, we recommend to keep her under intensive observation for next 24 hours to note the progress of the condition and treat accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel
