How To Handle The Fever And Watery Stool Related To The Infant?
My son who s 16 months has fever around 101 and has kind of watery stool 2-3 times a day. We took him to a doc who s asked us to give him plenty of fluids and ORS. This has been so for the past four days. Yesterday his fever was coming on and off at 4-5 hour interval. Is there reason to be alarmed.
Thanks for writing to health care magic. I can understand your concern. Monitor for signs of dehydration. They include 1. Decreased skin turgor 2. Increasing thirst. 3. Sunken eyes. 4. Irritability. 5. Drowsiness. 6. Decreasing passage of urine. Oral rehydration solution or any other solution containing salt and sugar should be given after assessment of hydration status. Probiotics and Zinc prescribed by your doctor will be useful.
Since his fever is not subsiding for the past 4 days he needs to be investigated for the cause of fever after a physical examination. Continue to ask further queries as required. Hope this helps. Take care. Dr Y V Siva Sankara Murty M.D.(Pediatrics) Associate Professor of Pediatrics
