How To Improve Hemoglobin Level For 87 Years Old Other Than Procrit?
My mother has been diagnosed with iron deficiency anemia after a bone marrow test. She is 87 years old. A colonoscopy and an endoscopy were done and they revealed no bleeding. She has been given iron infusions, but her hemoglobin still won't go higher than 8.8. They have given her blood and this rises her level, but shortly after, it is low again. The only medication that had been working was Procrit, but Medicare doesn't want to pay for it anymore. Her hematologist hasn't been able to determine what is actually going on. Where is all her bloog going?
HI Thank for asking to HCM I can understand your concern for your mother, as long as the age your mother is concern the haemoglobin of her is not such bad that could manifest clinically, if she does not have any complain which is direct indication of low haemoglobin then and then she would be in need of increasing the Hb level otherwise no need to do any thing for this 8.8 is not the critical level and that may not be clinically significant, iron containing diet alone can solve our problem, so try to concentrate on this, take care of your mother and have nice day.
