How To Overcome The Feeling Of Fluids Passing Through The Sternum And The Accompanied Indigestion?

I am a healthy 40 year old woman, normal weight for height etc, I play badminton once a week and do yoga. I am currently in the last throws of finishing a course of malaria tablets after returning from India 4 weeks ago. Otherwise I am not on any medication. Last evening at 7pm I ate a jacket potato with a very large portion of tuna, sweet corn and mayo together with 2 small glasses of wine. I took the two malaria tablets at 1030 and within a short time it felt like something was stuck in my sternum. There was a discomfort and slight burning sensation. I went to bed and it got progressively worse, like a real tightness in my sternum and more intense burning pain to the point I had to stand up to relieve it. I felt like I should burp but couldn t. I was in real pain. I had a gaviscon but it didn t make much difference. It is now 930pm the following evening and I just had a hot drink and it started burning again. I could almost feel the fluids passing through my sternum like something was blocking its passage. Since this started yesterday the problem has been constant. Im dreading going to bed tonight; I fear it will worsen again. I have never suffered with indigestion but last year my father dies of cancer of the oesophagus (but he was an alcoholic) can you please advise me what I should do ? Many thks in advance.

General Surgeon 's  Response
hello,
You seem to be suffering from gastro-esophagitis, as you have been taking anti malarial drugs which are known to cause such problems. please do not get too apprehensive, try avoiding any hot beverage, alcohol, anything too spicy or oily. Preferably take take your antimalarial tablets with milk, if you have finished the course than take a glass of cold milk in morning and in evening it will help in decreasing the discomfort, along with that start taking an antacid as Syrup mucaine gel two teaspoons three times a day before meals, and rabeprazole/pantoprazole in morning empty stomach. please feel free to ask any further queries and do ask your physician for exact dosage and proper method of taking the medications i have mentioned
thanks and regards
