How To Take The Recommended Dose When Unable To Tolerate Iron Tablets In Stomach?
I have a ferritin level of 8 but cannot tolerate iron tablets in my stomach. I have recently tried liquid iron feraglobin but am reluctant to take the recommended dosage of 14mg a day which equates to two x 5ml daily and so I have been having 1x5ml because of the possible effects on my stomach. Can you advise please?
Hi, The best solution we offer to those who are intolerant to iron is iron sucrose injections. we calculate the deficit of iron and inject it in the form of intravenous infusions. Now, Iron carboxy maltose injections are also available which can deliver huge doses of iron in single sitting. If you only intend to use oral iron, you have to continue with feraglobin syrup 2.5 ml/day and increase gradually till you achieve tolerable volume. you may also try iron pyrophosphate if available in your country which is a bit smoother on your gut. All the best.
