How To Treat For Gastroparesis While Being Type 2 Diabetic?
I recently had an upper endoscopy on August 17th, 2012. On my discharge instructions, it was annotated that food was still present in the body of my stomach. I'm 48 years of age, 5' 5", and 165 pounds. I also have type 2 diabetes. My gastroenterologist wrote an order to obtain gastric emptying study to evaluate for gastroparesis. What is gastroparesis, how and why do you get it? Does it cause any serious complications with my stomach?
Gastroparesis is a condition in which stomach can't empty food properly. There will be slow or delayed clearing of food from the stomach. There are many causes of it but diabetes is the most common cause in your case.
Your doctor will diagnose it by doing gastric studies in empty stomach. You can treat it with tab Metoclopramide.
One of the best way to control symptoms is modifying eating habits. Smaller frequency meals and avoid oily fatty foods. High fiber and liquid diet will be of great benefit.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
