Infant. Normal And Healthy. History Of Diagnosing Mild Dilation Fetal Renal Pelvis During Pregnancy. Doctor Suggested Scanning . Advice
Hello Doctor,
Now my baby is 9 months old, during my pregnancy on 5th month i had a scanning in which doctor said that there is a mild dilatation fetal renal pelvis on either side with 4.2 or 4.3MM (Not sure on the number). Later after immediate delivery I checked with my pediatrician. He asked me whether my baby is normally having his Urine pass . Yes, everything is fine with my son ... Now My son is 9 months completed & i casually checked with my doctor... He asked me to check with scanning again & come back... Please advice & help me...
Hello, You have 9 months old baby. During routine? Antenatal scans the doctor said that there is a mild Renal Pelvis Dilatation (RPD) on either side with 4.2 or 4.3MM (Not sure on the number), and NO other anomaly. You consulted a pediatrician immediately after delivery. As your baby didn't have any urinary problem, the Dr told you everything is fine. Now your baby is 9 months old and you have been advised to have a routine scan to assess the present condition. The gestational age and size of the Renal Pelvic Dilatation are important. Eventhough Less than 5 mm RPD is nothing to worry at that gestational age, and the child is not having any urinary symptoms, it is better to repeat the scan to assess the present condition.
Yes your infant should be investigated to rule out any abnormality which might have caused such problem
A ultrasound scan followed by MCU (if there is hydronephrosis on ultrasound) may be required to rule out anomalies like posterior urethral valves etc.
Continue to ask further queries.
Hope this helps.

The initial observation could have been functional or anatomical.
With time, there is possibility of correcting itself...
It is necessary to repeat the ultrasound and compare

Infant. Normal And Healthy. History Of Diagnosing Mild Dilation Fetal Renal Pelvis During Pregnancy. Doctor Suggested Scanning . Advice
Hi, Thank you for your query on Healthcare Magic. Child needs repetition of ultrasound abdomen and pelvis to look for any improvement or progression of renal pelvis dilatation. Some times the dilatation will get corrected spontaneously. But some will progress to cause further dilatation effecting kidney function in long term. So I advise you to go for scanning as per your doctor advise. Hope I have answered your query. Regards.
