Irregular Period, Breast Feeding. Had Cysts On Ovary Removed, One Ruptured. Suggested Endometrial Biopsy. Explain
I had two cysts on my left ovary removed on Sept.9, 2013. One was ruptured and the other was 10 cm. Also, my menstrual cycle did not resume after breast feeding my daughter for 21months. The Dr. discussed doing an endometrial biopsy or D&C. He wants to do a biopsy. I prefer a D&C so I will be sleep and unable to feel the pain. He wants to test the lining of my uterus and says he will get more info from the biopsy. What's the difference between the two procedures? Is the biopsy painful? Which procedure should I get?
Hello Thanks for your query. A D and C also provides information regarding the uterine lining. IT is comparable to a biopsy. You can definitely go for the biopsy, as it is done within seconds, it is not painful, and can be done easily in the OPD. The difference is that D and C is done under anaesthesia, and all the walls of the uterus are scraped, the mouth of the uterus is dilated and then curettage is done. In taking an endometrial biopsy, no anesthesia or dilatation is required. All the best.
