Irregular Periods With Heavy Bleeding. Undergone Colonoscopy And Got An IUD. Could The Procedures Cause This?
Hello,
I am a 47 year old female and a few things happened at the same time. I had a colonoscopy on Oct 1 (with a large polyp removal). I also have an IUD. At the time of the colonscopy, I was a week late for my period (which is out of the ordinary, I am very regular at 26 day cycles). The period was heavy and lasted 7 days. 2 days later I went immediately into another 7 day cycle. Again odd. I thought \i would wait fort another cychle before getting worried. Now I have another period starting 10 days later. Are these 2 things connected? Perhaps and iud in the general area where cauterization is used could have caused a problem? Perhaps it's all conincidental
Hello and welcome to HCM, The colonoscopy procedure and removal of polyp are unrelated to the menstrual irregularities. The intra-uterine devices (IUD) are associated with menstrual irregularities. The most common side effects of IUDs are pain, infection, menstrual irregularities, dysmenorrhea etc. However, most of these side effects disappear after some time. Observe your cycles for few more months. If the symptoms do not disappear after some months, you can consult your gynecologist. The further management will depend on the severity of the symptoms.
