Hi,
Bloating of the stomach is common with Myfenex as you are already on a high dose of it. If the side effect is too bothersome, you can talk to your prescriber for adding another medication and hence decreasing the dose of Myfenex. Also, it is recommended that you take the capsule or tablet with food and water. If you are not doing it currently, you should try doing it and then see if there is an improvement in the severity of the symptoms.
As general measures, you should:
• Limit your intake of carbonated drinks.
• Avoid foods that cause gas, such as Spicy, fried or fatty foods, Broccoli, cabbage, onions, Beans, Apple or prune juice, Dried fruits and lentils.
• Eat slowly and avoid drinking through a straw.
• Increase physical activity during the day
• Sit up straight after eating
• Take a stroll after eating
You can try natural remedies like Peppermint tea, Chamomile tea, Anise, Caraway, Coriander, Fennel, Turmeric
Over-the-counter remedies can be tried like
Pepto-Bismol, Activated
charcoal,
Simethicone, Lactase enzyme (
Lactaid or Dairy Ease)
Apart from that, this drug has the propensity to cause GI ulcers. So, be vigilant enough to look for any symptom like stomach pain to diagnose it at an early stage.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Maninder, General & Family Physician
