Hi,I am Dr. Andrew Rynne (Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Is Colonoscopy And Endoscopy Safe For Older People?
I am 76 years old and am contemplating a colonoscopy and endoscopy (last one performed 5 years ago.) I have heard that it can be more harmful to older people regarding punctures of the bowel, or infections. I did have a couple of pollups last time, and I do get a pain on my left side between my breast and the top of my stomach, after certain foods I eat. What would you recommend?
Madam, you are right ,puncture of gut during these procedures can cause pain and complication.though in old age this can cause more distress to the patient, but I must say procedures done bya skilled doctor never give bad result.and as per as your information about the location of the pain this can be due excessive acid secretion in stomach due to specific food ingestion.wish you a healthy life.thank you.
