Is Emergency Care Needed For A Swollen, Sprained And Painful Ankle?

I sprained my ankle earlier today, and it is swollen with some discoloring. I have had this happen before, but this time, my knee is hurting and my toes feel weird. My ankle is in a lot of pain when I move it a certain way and it pops when I walk. Should I go to the ER?

Hi
Thanks for writing your query.
My advice would be take rest, Ice fomentation, keep limb elevated and put a compression bandage (crepe bandage) along with ibuprofen and trysin to reduce pain and swelling.
If the swelling and pain persists you may require an x ray to rule out the fracture especially hair line fracture.
Take care and I shall be glad to answer any further query.
