Is Fecal Incontinence A Post-surgery Side Effect Of Piles Surgery?
Hi Doc! My father had gone through a surgery to remove his piles about 2 years ago. Recently he had disclosed to us that he is currently suffered from fecal incontinence. Is this one of the post-surgery side effects for removing piles? Can this be treated and how? Many thanks in advance!

Hi and thank you so much for this query.
I am so sorry to hear about this fecal incontinence. Anal surgery is a risk factor for this. He would need to be evaluated for any other possible contributing factors to this like diarrhea, constipation, etc and managed accordingly. Also, kegel exercises would prove helpful in helping strengthen his sphincter muscles. For now, he should consider using pant liners to avoid this happening in public.
I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thank you so much for using our services and feel free to ask for more information and clarification if need be.
