Hi there, i want to know
if Insulin resistance, iron deficiency and hypothyroidsm are linked. i have been tested for Diabetes, and i have been told that im just insulin resistant. My iron levels are low, and i have been put on iron suppliments, will i need to take these for the rest of my life, or is this something that recitifies itself? my thyroid has been checked and although its "within acceptable levels" i have may signs of hypothyroidsm, and i feel that my levels are low
Good day, Noted your concern. There has been studies showing the liks between Insulin resistance ( Metabolic syndrome) and hypothyroidism. Again, iron deficiency is common in hypothyroidism. It could be partly due to poor absorption of iron from stomach. Celiac disease is common in autoimmune hypothyroidism. Celiac disease can cause vtamin Deficiency and iron deficiency. It is important to find the cause of your iron deficiency. That will answer your question if you have to take iron supplements life long or not ? Many patents do complain about low mood and other symptoms even while adequately supplemented with thyroxine. It is important to keep TSH levels at around 3. It is also important to rule out other causes of such symptoms other than hypothyroidism. Regards Binu
