Is It OK To Take Tablets To Get Period Instead Of Birthcontrol Pills?

My girlfriend just started taking her birth control this month. Her mom didn't order her new pack in time. She is taking the pills where you have your period every three months. Would it be okay of she took her sugar pills now then started her next months whenever the week is over?
