Is It Normal To Have Swollen Tonsils And Visible Epigottis At An Age Of 7 Years As He Earlier Used To Throw Up When He Coughed ?
My 7 year old son has had swollen tonsils and visible epigottis for over a year, the doctors say it is common but no one else in our family has anything like this. When he was younger, 3 to 4, he used to cough so much that he had to carry around a bowl because it caused him to throw up.

swollen tonsils and visible epiglottis without fever, swallowing difficulties is VERY normal, DO NOT WORRY, the tonsils would require treatment only if they are inflammed or causing symptoms, usually they involute by 12-14 years

From the symptoms that you described your son might have adenotonsillitis due to the inflammation of the adenoids and the tonsils.you can try azithromycin 10mg/kg/day once daily (if he weighs 20 kgs he gets 200 mg daily) for 7 days with warm saline gargles.He might have to avoid Ice creams and other cold foods all together.
