Is It Ok To Take Double Dose Of Lopressor In One Day?
my husband turned 60 on Monday and is a diabetic on insulin. He was in hospital overnight for observation Tuesday (AC1 was 300) and found to have high blood pressure. The doctor put him on 50 mg lopressor BID and 20 mg lisinopril once a day and we bought a monitor and it still was 180 over 93 - so today he took an extra half of the lisinopril and now it is normal. He just took his second lopressor for the day. Do you think he will be ok?
He should be okay. But in the future I would recommend that he not take extra medicine to try to control a one-time reading of the blood pressure. The blood pressure can vary from moment to moment. The best thing to do is to monitor the blood pressure a few times a day over a couple of weeks, and keep a record. Then show the doctor all the readings, and the doctor can then decide if the medicine doses should be changed. You need to know what the average blood pressure is over time before making a lot of changes in the medicine. Hope this answers your query.
