I had a stent put in in 1999, another in 2010, and another in Sept. of 2011. I also have bone spurs in my neck so they want me to do an MRI. I'm sure when I had the stent in 1999, they told me no MRI, but I don't know the brand name. How can I find out if it's safe to have the MRI done? I'm 56 years old. 5'10" and weigh 220lbs.
If they have told you in 1999 that the stents may make further MRI imaging unsafe for you then you must follow that. Any magnetic material used in making the stent can displace the stent during MRI and this is risky. This information can only be got from the records of the hospital where the stenting was done. If the stent gets displaced then it can rupture the arteries and this can be very dangerous.
