Is The Infection Caused By Sebaceous Cyst On Back Likely To Heal By Itself?
I have a sebatious cyst in the middle of my back and it has gotten infected and painful in the last few days. There is some pussy discharge. My GP is aware of it and has told me that I would probably want to have it removed because it won't go away on its own. Other than the pain is there any reason to rush to the doctor in the few days before Christmas or can I wait and see if the infection goes away on its own. Is there a simple home treatment I can try? Is there any chance of the infection spreading?
Hello. As it is infected, we cannot remove it immediately. If you are my patient, i would prescribe antibiotics like Flucloxacillin with Metronidazole. Then i would wait till clear of infection. There is no effective home treatment for Sebaceous cyst because of recurrence of the cyst even after simple excision.
As you have the cyst in the middle of the back., it is better to go for X-ray, Ultrasound, CT and MRI Spine in the level concerned. Because the may have the connection with the spine or bone. Inappropriate management may result in cerebrospinal fluid leakage and complications (meningitis and death).
Hope this helps. Please write back for further queries. wishing you good health.
