Is There Any Issue If Victoza Is Double Dosed?

My husband accidentally double-dosed himself with victoza.. 1.8 u at 5:30 pm & the same at 8:30 pm.. The 8:30 dose should have been insulin.. After he realized what happened, he omitted the insulin... Should we be very concerned? Thank you!

Hi,
If your husband has double dosed Victoza(liraglutide) accidentally, then skipping insulin is the right thing to do as insulin and Victoza combination will increase the hypoglycaemia risk significantly.
You need to watch out for symptoms of hypoglycaemia nevertheless. Apart from hypoglycaemic events, other gastrointestinal side effects can be anticipated at this double dose. Nausea, vomiting or diarrhoea can occur which usually subsides soon.
I would have recommended my patient an hourly blood glucose monitoring for at least a day and not to repeat such accidental errors in the future.
I hope the above information helps you. Thanks for writing into healthcaremagic. Have a wonderful day.
