Is Very Dark Brown And Black Blood Discharge After Periods While Being On Mirena Coil For Heavy Periods Serious?

I have been on the mirena coil since December of last year for heavy periods. I am 46 years old. In the last 3/4 months I have been having very dark brown/black blood for days and days after my period, and in some cases over a week and a half later. Should I be worried ?

OBGYN, Maternal and Fetal Medicine 's  Response
Hi,

I think a ultrasound examination of lower abdomen will be required to determine if the mirena coil is at correct position or not. Also, a progesterone support pill will be required along with a course of tranaxemic acids. Also, I would suggest a thyroid profile test.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
