Lump At The Base Of Neck, Bruised When Touched. Anything To Worry ?
I have a lump at the base of the neck that suddenly appeared. Feels like a bruise when touched. I had something similar occur after dental anesthesia , on my hand, where the anesthesia was administered, with two bumps on the vein . To find out it was not a blood clot that could travel to the brain. There is no cause this time around, and no respiratory issue. I am on a boat and have no direct access to a doctor. Is there any emergency for me to do so?
Hi and welcome,
Lump or swelling in the neck area can be due to many reasons ,
.enlargement of salivary gland due to inflammation,
. viral or bacterial infection with lymph node enlargement can form lumps in neck ,
. Infected tooth may drain abscess in the spaces of neck leading to lump formation.
. Tonsillitis . celluilitis
.bening or malignant growth
exact diagnosis can be made only after clinical examination and radiographic evaluation by a doctor.
If the lump is painful , mean time i would suggest you to start witha antibiotic course of Augmentin 625mg with analgesics like aceclofenacserratiopeptidase twice daily for 3 to 5 days till the symptoms subside.
i hope this helps ,
take care.
