MI Said Myxoid Degenerative Change Of The Posterior Horn Of The Medial Meniscus. Meaning?

i had a mri done a few days ago and it says i have 1. myxoid degenerative change of the posterior horn of the medial meniscus , with a small meniscal tear difficult to exclude. 2. mild changes of chondromalacia patalla. 3. other findings above. i am a 40 year old male. i have a bad left knee already needing surgey but waiting for a left shoulder surgery to heal due to a bad deployment to afghanistan. i now have a frozen shoulder and the dr cant do anything until the shoulder heals a little better then we will do the next shoulder surgery. until then im carrying all my weight on my right knee and know i messed it up. how does it sound? will i need surgery on it to?

Hello and welcome to HCM,

You are dealing with two problems at the same time.
Firstly, the knee joint has two pathologies.
To understand this, I will give you a brief overview of the knee joint. The knee joint is made by two bones- tibia (leg bone) and femur (thigh bone).
The stability between two bones is maintained by couple of cartilages. Medial and lateral meniscal cartilages are one of the pairs.
The two cartilages form cushion which provides a smooth surface for the femur to glide.
In your case there is a teat in the medial meniscus and degeneration at the posterior end.
Thiese chages do not heal on their own because menisci are avascular structures.
Management is initially conservative. If the conservative measures fail, surgical measures are taken.
Conservative measures involve rest, anti-inflammatory drugs and avoiding such movements which aggravate the pain.

Patella is the bone which forms the knee cap. Chondromalacia means a degenerative process in the cartilage which lies below the knee cap.
Management of chondromalacia is conservative- rest, icing, compression and elevation.

lastly, the problem of frozen shoulder for which you are awaiting surgery.
I think the symptoms will resolve after the surgery.

However, since you have mentioned that you are bearing the weight on your right lower limp.
Prolonged weight bearing on one limb is not good for the right limb as it can cause degenerative changes.
So, get the treatment of left limb as soon as possible.

Thanks and take care.
