MRI Shows Osteophytic Compression Of The Nerve Root Bilaterally, Disc Herniation Compressing The Right Nerve Root. Indications?
my husband has just had mri scan results showing, At C5/6 there is osteophytic compression of the C6 nerve root bilaterally. At the C6/7 level their is a right paracentral disc herniation which abutts the anterior cord and compresses the right nerve root. Their is normal signal from the spinal cord itself. Could you please explain what this means in layman terms ?
In layman term this means that:
1.There is nerve root compression that is called radiculopathy in medical term and that may induce shooting pain caused due to the nerve root compression due to paracentral disc herniation at C6/7 level that needs to be treated.
Moreover the osteophytic compression of C6 is common as there is age related changes in bone after certain age.
There is normal signal means it rules out other sinister cause eg tumor/metastases and infection etc which signifies a relief for you and augurs well for patient as the later would have required a consultation with even an oncologist etc.
