Numbness And Pain In Thigh. Feeling Of Blood Getting Blocked. What Should I Do?

Dear Doctor I have numbness and pain in the right thigh. It is the front of the leg and not the back. I have no pain in my shins and calves. It feels as if all the blood is getting blocked. it has been getting progressively worse for years and it is almost like tapping on a piece of wood on the front of my thigh. My left leg is not affected at all. What should I do? kind regards Lorraine

Hi,
Based on the the symptoms you have it is most probably Meralgia paresthetica, a condition characterized by tingling, numbness and burning pain in the outer part of your thigh. The cause of meralgia paresthetica is compression of the nerve that supplies sensation to the skin surface of your thigh.Tight clothing, obesity or weight gain, and pregnancy are common causes of meralgia paresthetica. However, meralgia paresthetica can also be due to local trauma or a disease, such as diabetes.
So, i recommend you to perform certain investigations to help diagnosing the disease.Fasting and Post prandial Blood Sugar,X-ray Hip and Pelvic area,Electromyography,Nerve Conduction Study
In most cases, meralgia paresthetica can be relieved with conservative measures, such as wearing looser clothing. In severe cases, treatment may include medications to relieve discomfort or, rarely, surgery.
Once the disease is diagnosed then you can follow conservative measures losing weight,Wearing looser clothing ,take pain killers like aspirin/Ibuprofen.Though the main line of treatment will be Corticosteroids,Gabapentin,Tricyclic Antidepressants.

Wish u best of Health
