On Thyronorm For Low Thyroid, Still Same After 2 Months, Gaining Weight. What To Do ?

My wife's TSH was reported 8.93 in April 13. Doctor prescribed Thyronorm 50 mg tablet 1 per day ( in the morning empty stomach. After regular two moths with this treatment, at June end we have again checked TSH and this time it was 0.032. Tests were done in the most reliable clinic in the city. Last time even we have repeated the test on the same day but the result was same. Before April 13 she did not had any problem with TSH. I mean to say that there is no past history. In April it was checked because she gained around 2.5 kg weight in a couple of months. She is 41.

Hi,
Welcome to Healthcaremagic,
Your wife is having high TSH level which is most commonly due to underactive Thyroid hormone.
That is the reason your doctor prescribed Thyroxine 50 microgram/day (please note dose is not in mg?).
Hypothyroidism can cause swelling over body which can cause weight gain.
If the TSH level is under control the dose of Thyroxine can be reduced with the consultation of your treating Doctor.
Tests like FT3, FT4 and TSH, anti TPO, anti thyroglobulin and Ultrasonography evaluation of thyroid gland may be helpful.
Please consult your Physician/Endocrinologist adjust dose of Thyroxine.
Hope this helps you.
Take care.
Good Luck.

Hi
Regarding your query, because of hypothyroidism(TSH 8.93) your doc prescribed 50 mg of thyronorm tab..

But after 2 months your wife had TSH value of 0.032..that means after correcting the hypo state it causes hyper state.(normal level is 0.5-5.5).

Reduce the dose of using thyronorm after consulting physician..
Do tests in the same laboratory that too a recognised one
thank you
