Painful Thigh, Hip And Buttock Bruised, Numbness. Taking Inflammatory Painkillers. Expect Improvement?

After walking quite strenuously I have a pain in my right thigh, it started in my hip/buttock but has gone down into my thigh, feels like a bruise, there is a small bruise (coincidence?) also the feeling goes numb, can't sleep very well or sit in certain positions, have been taking anti inflammatory painkillers and rubbing in deep heat but can't see much improvement

Hi, Thanks for writing to HCM.

As per the description, I suspect that you could have suffered a Quadriceps strain owing to unaccustomed physical activity.

The general treatment guidelines are as follows -
- REST the injured area and avoid doing any activities that causes pain
- ICE COMPRESSION over the painful area once in 2-3 hours
- Wrap an ELASTIC COMPRESSION BANDAGE around the painful area
- Elevate your leg on a cushion or a pillow while you are lying or sitting down
- Use analgesic anti-inflammatory medications like Advil or Aleve to reduce the pain and inflammation.
- Once the severity of pain decreases, Gradual and mild stretching activities of the knee are begun along with Moist heat fomentation of the painful area so as to increase the blood supply to the underlying muscles and also the relax them

If your symptoms are not resolving with the above measures, then an MRI scan of the involved area is needed to rule out any significant soft tissue damage.

Hope this information is helpful. Good day
