Pregnant, NTNB Scan Showed Fibroids. On Susten, Fetal Weight Normal. How Long To Continue? Any Effect On Fetus?
I am 25 weeks pregnant. in my NTNB scan, there were two fibroids though of small sizes. from very start i was put on susten 100mg daily then maintain 500mg injection once a week after level 2 scan. Scan at 23 weeks showed that fetal weight is OK. how long should i have to take this medicine?. is it going to make any side effect on fetus or my body? One more thing, is more number of USGs are harmful to fetus or not?
hello Thanks for your query. There is not much use of taking these injections beyond the first trimester. Susten contains progesterone, which acts as a tocolytic, that is, it suppresses uterine contractions, hence it can be taken as fibroids increase the risk of preterm labour. There are no major side effects of taking progesterone on your body or fetus. USG is absolutely safe, and has no side effects. Take care.
Hi, Thank you for choosing Healthcaremagic. Small fibroids doesnt cause any problem to the pregnancy. And progesterone tablets are totally safe, but not required as pregnancy advances. Your doctor might give you this medication for some time. And progesterone injection will quitan the uterus, and also acts as a Tocolytic. I hope this information has been both informative and helpful for you. In case of any doubt, I will be available for follow-ups. If you like my answers kindly rate it, and write a review as well.
