Recurring Cough For 5 Weeks. Taking Kalixocin. History Of Pneumonia. Will Taking Alcohol While Medication Cause Any Problem?

Good morning - my husband has had a cough for 5 weeks and is has been taking Kalixocin for a week and a half. The doctor can't decide whether he has asthma or not as he is aged 68 and has had pnenomia twice in the past 18 months and been hospitalised. Naturally he will need more tests but should he be drinking alcohol whilst taking the Kalixocin?

Hello,

Thanks for posting on HCM,

At his age, it will be best to think of various possible causes of cough including atypical forms of lung infections such as tuberculosis, pneumocystosis, lung tumors, COPD etc rather than focusing only on typical pneumonia. He will require chest x-ray and blood work.
To answer your question, it is not advisable to be on any antibiotics and take alcohol. Alcohol may increase toxic effect of the medication. I suggest he stays off alcohol until duration of treatment.

Hope this helps and wish you the best
