hi there, in feb. i had a copper IUD put in. after months of hoping the cramps and spotting would stop i decided to get it out. we then discovered i had a long-term infection of the cervix caused by reaction to trauma. now i m about to get it cauterized. problem is i live in turkey and my turkish is ok but i d like to hear it in my mother tongue ... what should i expect from the procedure and what sort of after care is there?

Hello and welcome,

Cauterization of the cervix is applying a heated cautery or a cold current [ special instruments and both have same action of denuding the cervical lining] to the cervix. This burns or coagulates and peels off the outer layer of the cervix that is causing the irritation.
You will not feel it as there will be anesthesia. Later you may expect a discharge for some days until it heals and new cervical lining is formed.

No special after care is needed. Just keep the area clean and dry and change undergarments twice daily. I prefer to advise a refrain from sexual activity for 2 weeks until the wound heals completely so as to avoid repeat infection.

Do not worry. This is a very routine and simple procedure.

Hope this satisfies your query.
