Results Of Haemogram Shows P Like P 92%. Explain About Normal Values, High Value, Low Value
Hey Doc. I'm a 18year old medical student. I'm just confused with haemogram results. I know that differential count contains lymphocytes, monocytes, neutrophils, eosinophils and basophils. But now these results have a "P", like this P92%.. Do you have any idea what that means? And what are the normal values? What does a high value mean and a low value mean??... Thank you in advance.
Hello and welcome to HCM. In the differential counts, neutrophils are designated by another term called 'polymorphonuclear cells' or simply 'polymorphs'. This terminology is used because these cells have lobated nucleus varying from 3-5. The abbreviation used for polymorphs is 'P'. The normal percentage of polymorphs is between 40-80 % and the normal range for absolute counts is between 1500-7000 / cubic millimeter. These ranges vary from laboratory to laboratory depending on the ethnic groups studied. The high value of polymorphs suggests infections especailly acute bacterial infections. I hope your doubt about the "p" is clear in the DLC.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja P Wahal
