The same thing happened to me in march13 but that one had a very bad infection .The doc advised me of candid drops and cetzine A and combiflam. Should I start taking the same medicine ?

Hi,
It seems that you might be having otitis externa giving rise to this problem.
there is possibility of having fungal infection and now super added with bacterial infection.
Go for one antibiotic medicine course for 3-5 days.
After infection cured, keep your ears clean and dry.
Keep cotton plug inside the external ear to prevent water going inside.
Ok and take care.

Hello,

Thanks for writing to HCM.

Pain on touching the ear goes in favour of an infection of the ear canal or a boil of the ear.

I would not advise you to put Candid drops or take cetzine A, as Candid is an antifungal medication and Cetzine A an antiallergic. In the past, you probably had a fungal infection in your ear.

Get an ENT examination as you may require cleaning and splinting of the ears with a medicated pack. You may also require an antibiotic combination like amoxicillin with cloxacillin to resolve the boil.

Avoid meddling with your ears. Do not touch or insert any ear buds as it will worsen the infection.

Hope this helps.
Take care,

Hello and welcome to HCM,

You seem to be having an infection of the ear canal which we call the otitis externa. This is common infection and is usually bought by ear piking or using ear buds and other things inside the ear. You do not have to worry about it as it is easily treatable and you need to just follow a few things:

1. Take a course of antibiotic like amoxycillin-clavulanate combination for five days. Your doctor will know about these

2. You may continue the combiflam and anti histamine for five days in consultation with your doctor.

3. Try applying hot fomentation over the area with a clean cloth

4. The pain in these area is usually very severe, if it is so then you may ask your doctor for injectable medication for faster and better symptom relief

5. Unless you have discharge or fungus you do not have to put any ear drops

6. Wait for a week and if your symptoms do not improve or rather worsen then consult an ENT who can place a locally acting anti-inflammatory pack to relieve the pain and swelling.

7. Lastly but most importantly do not use ear buds or any other thing to clean the ear. Our ears have excellent cleaning mechanism which can clean the ears and ear buds actually cause more harm than good. Keep your nails trimmed and fingers clean when you touch the ears

take care and get well soon

Please go see an ENT specialist before starting any ear drops. You can take combiflam maximum twice daily after meals with antacids in the meantime. Last time you had a fungal infection of External Ear. This time it may be different & faulty drops can damage your eardrum. A proper check up for recurrent ear infections should also be done.
