Severe Pain In Left Ankle, Swelling. Sprained Ankle Years Back. Arthritis?
My left ankle just started hurting about four hours ago and now I am severe pain. There is some swelling. II serevely sprained my ankle about 22 years ago but other than sports injuries have dealt with very few issues. I was told about 15 years ago that I was developing arthritis in that ankle. The pain is excrutiating right now and has me worried.
The pain and swelling suggest an arthritis itself. But a physical examination is mandatory to find the cause behind it.
Previous trauma can lead to arthritis. But your short history of pain which became severe within four hours is against it.
So I'd advise you to get your knee examined by an Orthopaedician and do the necessary investigations like X Ray, Blood Routine etc. to make a certain diagnosis.
In the meantime get some over the counter painkiller like Ibuprofen to suppress your pain and swelling. Take the medicine after food only.
Wish you good health. Please revert with further details.
