Should I Be Concerned About An MRI Showing A Bulge Under Armpit?
An MRI showed negative results but a six year old male child has a bulge under his right armpit. The Radiologist said the muscle was bigger on one side and so evidence of anything abnormal. Have you heard of this condition and should I get another opinion.
Hi, Thanks for using healthcaremagic. A bulge under the armpit can be because of the muscle being bigger or more likely due to asymmetric fat distribution. I've seen a few cases with asymmetric fat distribution which seems like a bulge on seeing externally. Usually muscles are not involved. If a muscle is affected then it will most likely be due to involvement of the nerve. The muscle on the other side would be affected as the muscles usually become smaller due to affection of the nerve supplying to it. Please get a second opinion on the MRI and confirm it is a problem with the muscle. If its a problem with the muscle please consult an orthopedician who will do the necessary treatment so that there wont be any functional problems later in life. If the problem is because of asymmetric fat, then you can ignore it. If its giving a cosmetic problem, you can get it equalized by a plastic surgeon. Hope it sorts your problem. Regards,
