hi welcome to hcm
age is a pretty much imp factor when considering
bunion surgery.
As a matter of fact, most surgeries will need to consider the age of the patient. However, this is pretty much crucial with Bunions because there are surgeries that are not recommended for elder patients due to the fragile state of their bones. Sometimes, surgeries in general may not at all be advised for a certain patient as the age increases.
but have u tried conservative treatment.
if not go in for that. it includes:
The most essential aspect of the nonsurgical treatment is to get your foot enough rest.
Avoid too much walking and putting weight on the foot.
However, for not-so severe cases i suggest that you wear wider shoes to relieve the pain of the bunion.
Avoid wearing high heels or those that are too stiff for your feet.
Application of
cold pack is also a part of treatment.
To reduce the tension on your bunion, you are advised to do some stretching exercises.
Your orthopeidic will recommend an orthotic device (bunion
splint) to help ease the pain at night.
Pharmacological Intervention. Since bunion causes inflammation of the affected toe, your doctor will prescribe anti-inflammatory drugs such as
acetylsalicylic acid,
naproxen and
ibuprofen.
