Should Tetanus Injection Be Given To A Child Suffering From HCP Porphyria?
My son is diagnosed with HCP Porphyria, one of the acute Porphyrias, and the school is telling us he needs a tetanus shot to stay in school. My research shows a link between tetanus shot and potentially inducing a Porphyria attack. AT 13 he s never had one (he s genetically diagnosed because of me) and don t want to induce one. Should he get the shot.

Should Tetanus Injection Be Given To A Child Suffering From HCP Porphyria?
Hi, It seems your child has hereditary coproporphyria. There are a lot of medicines that can cause acute exacerbations of symptoms, but tetanus toxoid is very unlikely to cause so. If you can share the link with us, we would like to go through it. Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Take care Regards, Dr Nirubhan Bharathy, Pediatrician
