Hello Doctor, my 6 year old son has a viral infection for last 5 days ( high temperatures by times, runny nose , cought etc) but in last three days has been very upset with pains in back of legs casuing him to limp. it seems to loosen up during the day but gets worse at night amd in morning ? Is this normal symptom of viral infection? thank you
Hi
Thanks for your query,
your child is havinfg fever, running nose, cough and leg pains, these are all symptoms of viral infection.I advise you to give him paracetamol for pain and fever, give him plenty of fluids, warm water will be good, avoid all kind of fried food and junk food.make him rest as his immunity will improve and he will be well soon.In case his pain and fever continues to be there take him to pediatrician.
Your son will be fine.
God bless
Hello
Pain in leg during viral fever is common and this is due to viral myositis. It can be mild or sever enough to cause limping.
It usually subsides within few days to weeks with conservative treatment. In some cases steroids may be helpful.
I would suggest you to consult your physician for clinical examination to rule out any weakness. Also he may need to be investigated for muscle enzymes to confirm the myositis.
