Small Child, Viral Infection, Nasal Discharge, Coughing, Sneezing, Nose Bleeds. Treatment?
hi, my daughter (1 year old) has recently been very poorly with a viral infection. She is slowly recovering although keeps falling to sleep during the day -(is this normal during recovery?), also she has had a very runny nose along with coughing and sneezing . This morning she woke coughing hard and sneezing then started bleeding from her nose! is this due to the hard coughing and sneezing? Many thanks
A viral upper respiratory tract infection may take some time to get controlled during which period one can have running nose, cough and sneeze. This can make one weak which, along with decongestant medications, can make one very sleepy.
The inflammation of the nasal lining can, on occasioins, give rise to bleeding from the nose. If the bleeding does not stop then one should keep the nostrils pinched for 5 minutes by the clock. Nasal discharges should be cleaned gently so as not to dislodge the healing scab. In case bleeding is not getting controlled medical attention is warranted immediately.
I hope I have answered your query to your satisfaction.
HI,
thanks for your query.
Your daughter is having respiratory infection viral in nature,it takes few days to settle.
Epistaxix or nose bleed is associated with rhinosinusitis, trauma mostly by nose picking.
In case there is recurrent bleed than i advise you to get pediatric consultation .in the meantime you can apply cold compresses over nose, pinch nose for 5 to 10 minutes.put liquid paraffin drops.
Give plenty of fluids, warm water is helpful.
