Smashed Head With Metal Rake, Big Swelling Right Above Hairline. No Dizziness, Nausea. Should I See A Doctor ?

Hi - About an hour ago I did the classic thing of stepping on a metal rake so it whipped up and smashed into my head, causing a big egg to come up right above my hairline. I am not dizzy or nauseous, my pupils are equal size, so I don't think I have a concussion and the ice pack helped the bump to reduce by about half. Do you think I should go to ER or it's okay?

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

In a head injury a CT is required if there is : memory loss, seizures, headache, vomiting, older than age 60 yrs, drug or alcohol intoxication.

If none of the above is present then you do not need to go to the ER. If any are present you should consider going for assessment.

If you do not need to go the ER then you can continue using the ice pack along with anti inflammatory pain killers such as ibuprofen, diclofenac, aspirin.

I hope this helps
