Soreness In Gums Around Lower Wisdom Tooth, Metal Taste In Mouth. On Medicines For Ear Infection And Ulcer. Is It Due To Medicines?

I have soreness in my gums around my lower wisdom teeth and have a metal taste in my mouth. I had been taking a prescription for an ulcer that also caused this taste, as well as an antibiotic for a severe right ear infection . I have not taken either rx since last Friday...could the rx still be causing the metal taste and sore wisdom tooth area?

hello,
the all symptoms you experience now is related to the wisdom tooth eruption.
during eruption of wisdom tooth,it is common to have infection and swelling of flap covering the tooth called pericoronitis.metal taste in mouth, ear and throat infection are associated symptoms of pericoronitis.
visit your dentist and get an x-ray of that area.according to x-ray ,we can decide whether operculectomy is sufficient or not .in this, the flap covering the tooth is removed to enhance tooth eruption.
if there is no adequate space for eruption of tooth, then it has to be surgically extracted.
hope you get well soon.

HELLO and welcome to HCM forum,
i am glad you wrote in, i would like to inform you that ear infection and swollen gums are inter-related, this condition is called, 'pericoronitis'.
the gum around your wisdom tooth might be swollen, which causes a radiating pain to the ear also,
the metallic taste is either due to the medication or due to pus(infection) associated with the wisdom tooth.
i advise warm saline rinses(3-4 times/day),
antibacterial mouth rinse(twice/day) , and visit you dentist soon, as he/she might click an x-ray to make sure your wisdom tooth is erupting in the right direction,
i hope i answered your query,
i wish you good health,
take care.

Hello
the gums surrounding the wisdom tooth seem to be infected.
This is called pericoronitis.i would advice you to get your
wisdom tooth extracted since its an extra tooth and do
not carry any function.under the influence of antibiotic
and analgesic infection lowers.the metallic taste is due to
pus discharge around wisdom tooth because of infection.
Rinse mouth with warm saline water twice daily for relief.
