Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have a 6yr old girl who repeatedly complains of stomach pain. She is on medication for GERD that doesn t seem to help. In the last 2 months she has gone to bed complaining of pain and awaken covered in vomit a total of 3 times. Is there anything that comes to mind when thinking of a child that has vomiting spells for no reason or continuous pain. We cannot find a correlation between food, or anything. These events seem to be random, her complaining of her stomach almost weekly. She will be fine playing normal, go peaked and say her stomach hurts. NO FEVER, not a virus, I m not sure of the next step to take with her, and highly question if this is GERD.
It does not sound like GERD. This condition gives rather chest burning, acid regurgitation, burping, cough, throat infection. Vomiting is not characteristic for this issue. Stomach pain in such young age can be cause by parasites presence in the digestive tract, gallstones. I suggest you to consult gastrologist as a next step. Abdominal ultrasound, blood work and stool tests should be done at first.
Hope this will help. Regards.
