hiii dear

the medicines that have you mentioned is appropriate to you illness
no need to change the medicines if u have good control

duration of treatment is depends upon its symptoms and onset of disorder
second thing is also depend upon no of episodes
and also time for responds to treatment also imp.

so you do not mentioned here all this details , so its difficult to say
but if it is 1st episode and you have control within 5 to 6 months than NICE guideline suggest that treatment should be continue up to one and half year after proper control of the symptoms

but take proper advise from your doctor who started this medicines
he will guide u best because he knows everything

Psychiatrist Dr. Abhishek Kapoor's  Response
Hi
Thanks for using healthcare magic

You did not mention about the duration of illness. In schizophrenia, duration of treatment depends upon severity of illness and past history of episode. If you are in remission for last 5 to 6 years, then you can try to off drugs after psychiatrist consultation. Never do it yourself. It could lead to relapse of symptoms. In case, you need further help, you can ask.

Addiction Medicine Specialist Dr. Preeti Parakh's  Response
Hi Arti,

The treatment for schizophrenia needs to be continued for at least a few years, otherwise there is a high risk of relapse. Some patients may need to be on medicines for their entire life. The decision to stop medicines depends on many factors like past history, family history, severity of the episode, personal factors etc. In my opinion, you should continue with your medicines for now and discuss these issues in detail with a good psychiatrist to decide when you can be brought off medicines.

Best wishes.
