Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, I m a fairly petite girl and I have several moles on my body. Soon, I am getting two moles removed. One of them is raised, about the size of two erasers. It is located directly on my hip. Only about half of it is actually attached to my skin. Would I need stitches when I get it removed?
Hello and welcome to HCM, Whether sutures will be required or not will depend on the size of the moles. If the mole is big enough, sutures will be required. After surgical removal, care of the wound should be taken and infection should be prevented. The thing which is important is that you should get all moles examined microscopically by a pathologist. This is because moles may be premalignant or malignant. Thus, in order to ascertain that no premalignant or malignant change is occurring in the moles. Any newly developing mole should be viewed with suspicion. In case there is increase in size of moles or change in color or any other change in the moles, appropriate steps should be taken.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja P Wahal
