Hi,I am Dr. Alexander H. Sheppe (Psychiatrist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi- I'm a 22 year old female, 5'0", 104 lbs. I'm on medication for rheumatoid arthritis and Hashimoto's. I get serious anxiety in areas where there are fire alarms/regular fire drills because I am afraid of being startled by the sound. I'm currently student teaching at a school and am looking for some strategies to curb my fire alarm anxiety.
I went through your details. I suggest you not to worry much. I can understand your emotions. I would like to know whether you are anxious to only these fire alarm sounds or to any other loud piercing noises? You need to determine this is just anxiety disorder or depression. Proper and correct Diagnosis is the first step to correct treatment. You need to undergo psychometric tests to have a proper diagnosis. Please consult a psychologist.
For the time being, you can start with exercise, breathing techniques. Systematic desensitization therapy could be suitable to you for this disorder.
Psychotherapy techniques should suit your requirement. If you require more of my help in this aspect, Please post a direct question to me in this URL. http://goo.gl/aYW2pR. Make sure that you include every minute details possible. I shall prescribe the needed psychotherapy techniques.
Hope this answers your query. Available for further clarifications. Good luck.
