Hello,

Soda bicarbonate is commonly used to soften the wax which, then easily removed. Is burning in ear only comes after you instill Soda bicarbonate in the ear? Is the ear otherwise painful? is ear tender to touch?

Sometimes, due to impacted wax there is an infection in the external auditory canal which can cause burning and pain in the ear which exacerbates on touching or putting something in the ear. You can stop the Soda bicarbonate and let the ENT surgeon asses the ear before resuming the Soda Bicarbonate. There is nothing to worry about at this moment. Alternatively, if there is no pain on touching the ear or pressing the ear canal then you can also use 3%Hydrogen peroxide in the ear that will also soften the wax (Use for 3-4 days). If pain persists, or there is fever then report back to ENT surgeon for immediate assessment.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
