i was looking for a diagnose to the disease I am facing currently on my right foot.I came across a description on your page below...can you please advice on the treatment for this disease so that accordingly I can consult my doctor here in this part of the world. Am 22 - Male. thanks Buerger's disease is a rare disease of the arteries and veins in the arms and legs. In Buerger's disease, blood vessels swell and can become blocked with blood clots .This eventually damages or destroys skin tissues and may lead to infection and gangrene. Buerger's disease usually first shows in the hands and feet and may expand to affect larger areas of arms and legs. It is found in smokers and other forms of tobacco users more common in the Middle East and Far East. Buerger's disease usually affects men between ages 20 and 40, though it's becoming more common in women.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi, what is the problem you are facing?
Buergers disease leads to blockage of the smaller arteries below the level of the knee which leads to pain on walking a specific distance. Smoking is the main cause. Treatment is mostly medical. Stopping smoking is the cornerstone of the treatment. Unless you stop smoking or tobacco intake, it is unlikely to improve. Other than that, at our Dept of Vascular Surgery we give medicines like Atorvastatin, Folic acid, Trental and Cilostazol which help in decreasing the problem and increasing the walking distance.
Please let me know if there are other queries on this subject. You will need to ask a Direct or a Specialist query for the same.
Take care,
Dr Rishi,
