my son is 15, he swims 4 times a week and for the past 6 months always suffers from a blocked nose/ runny nose for at least a day after swimming, he has tried nose clips, breathing out through his nose when swimming and nasal sprays, any other advice please
Noted your specific history about your 15 year old son getting blocked and runny nose a day after swimming. The obvious cause looks to be the disinfectants used in water that is irritating the nasal mucosa. The possible management is as follows: First of all stop swimming in the same pool as the water is not suitable for him. Prevention is better than cure. Change to anothr swimming pool wherein another chemical is used to disinfect water. Symptomatic treatment after consulting an ENT Surgeon for proper clinical examination, X-ray nose and sinuses, blood tests for allergy. This will allow the proper management of the case.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
